NEWHITE BLOOM AUSTRALIA EDITORIAL | COLLECTION V
From vague to vogue. How far would you go to chase the faintest idea?
The short version of the story behind this Editorial is this:
My friend Sam from Bloom Australia had announced her upcoming trunk show gowns on instagram. I looked up the designer Newhite and one of their posts showed this photo of a model wearing the R.B. dress by Newhite. It was taken from the back and the movement and architecture of the fabric haunted me, in the best possible way. It moved me and first I didn’t know why. I reflected on it and realised that looking at the gown gave me the same feeling as the feeling I get when I look at Robert Mapplethorpe’s photos of the Calla Lily {1988, New York} - photographs that I have always really loved, but didn’t know why. The dress carries the same visual and emotional signature for how I experience these photos. If you feel the same, please let me know it’s not just me.
We got a team together and I got to spend a few hours chasing and exploring that vague notion of overlap. As a side effect of these visual studies, we also photographed 2 other gowns from the brand new Collection V by Newhite and I got to create without any rush with some of my favourite people, including my husband and other half of Lovelenscapes {Doruk}, and extremely talented industry friends.
I always have too many ideas and choosing which ones to chase, which ones to set aside, and which ones to throw out is a daily battle.
I’m glad I followed this one and I like where it took all of us. As an artist, it doesn’t get much more rewarding for me when it comes to those moments in life where my heart is full and I can tick off an idea, knowing I have chased it to my satisfaction - for now.
